Her minör dizi, bir majör dizi ile aynı notalardan oluşur, fakat notalar farklı sırayla dizilmiştir. Bu durumun tersi de geçerlidir; aynı şekilde her majör dizi de, bir minör dizi ile aynı notalardan oluşur. Her majör tonunun, altıncı derecesindeki minör tonuyla ilgili bir ilişkisi vardır.
