Chord Positions

Find the same chord higher and lower on the neck. Choose a root and a chord type, then step through the shapes with the arrows; colours tell you which note is the root and which are the 3rd, 5th or 7th.

How to use the Chord Positions

Choosing a chord

Pick the root note first, then the chord type (major, minor, 7, maj7, m7, sus4, dim, aug and more). The chord symbol is shown underneath.

Browsing voicings

Use the arrow buttons to step through different shapes of the chord; the counter shows how many there are. Play chord sounds it out, and once you've interacted with the page the chord also plays whenever the voicing changes.

What the colours mean

The colours on the neck describe what each note does: the root has one colour, and the 3rd, 5th and 7th or added tones each have their own. The small rings under the neck give the formula (1, 3, 5, b7 and so on), and the info panel lists the notes, intervals and scales that sit well over the chord.
